This past weekend we had one last Christmas party. We went over to my Aunt Jane and Uncle Doug's house to celebrate with them. We had so much fun watching the girls play and had some very yummy food.

On New Year's Eve we put this cute girl to bed and then Daniel and I watched movies and had ice cream sundaes yum :) 2011 was an interesting year. We started off the year with an infant and ended the year with a toddler. Watching Karlee grow has brought us amazing joy. This year had its ups and downs. Daniel and I both lost a Grandpa this year (my papa Bill and Daniel's Abuelo). Even in the sadness we have great faith in knowing we will see them again some day. Goodbye 2011 hello 2012 :)

The day before Christmas Eve we went to my parents house to have Christmas Eve with them. As a family tradition we always open up new PJs and a new book on Christmas Eve. Since we couldn't do it on Christmas Eve we decided to do it the day before.

Every year my Grandma, Mom and I get together to make Christmas cookies! This has been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember! This year Karlee was able to "help" a little bit and she loved it!

About 2 weeks before Christmas we went to look at some lights with my side of the family. There is truly something magical about looking at lights. It was such a fun night and a great way to feel the holiday spirit.

Every year we go with my parents to help them pick out their Christmas tree and then we help them decorate it. Karlee loved going to the Christmas tree lot. She also loved decorating the tree.

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year full of food, family and fun. I love Thanksgiving and the opportunity it gives us all to reflect on our many blessings. This year we were supposed to be with Daniel's family, but due to illness our plans changed. Luckily my Mom had a 24 lb turkey in the oven :) So we packed up and headed to my parents.

15 Months!

This cute girl is now 15 months old. We took her to the Doctors on Friday and she is 20.5 lbs and 29 inches tall! She is still cute and petite!

Things I want to remember about Karlee:

She loves books and loves "reading" to herself

She loves going on walks

She now has 6 teeth

She is going through a weird eating stage and will only eat- oatmeal, all fruit, cheerios, bread, carrots, and grilled cheese.

She "talks" a lot but can say: that, this, cheese, Mama, Dada, and ball

She recognizes a lot of words and will point to it if asked.

She loves to laugh

Halloween!

Karlee was so excited to go trick-or-treating that she even wore the hood part of her costume.
The pumpkin patch had a ladybug infestation.

But nobody seemed to mind because the ladybug was so cute.

But she was more excited for the next one. She put her teeth to good use later that evening sampling some chocolate.

My friend Megan was in town for the weekend and we stopped by to visit. Our daughters had matching costumes so we had to get a picture of Karlee and her fellow ladybug friend Mckinley.

Sunday Before Halloween!

The Sunday before Halloween we went to my parents house to carve pumpkins, eat yummy soup and make candied apples.

Karlee wasn't afraid of getting her hands dirty to carve the perfect pumpkin.

Karlee was very helpful throughout the entire process.

She decided that it was best for Daddy to do the actual carving.

Trunk or Treat

Our church had their annual trunk or treat and chilli cook off the Saturday before Halloween. Karlee had so much fun going to all the trunks to get candy. Cousin Lucia came to visit and it was a lot of fun seeing them getting candy together.

Karlee was not shy about picking out the candy she wanted.

There were quite a few ladybugs at the party but in my unbiased opinion Karlee was the cutest :)

It was a lot of fun having Eric, Kira, Lucia, and Jonas join us for the trunk or treat.

Heritage Park Pumpkin Patch!

Last Friday we went to La Verne to go to the Heritage Park Pumpkin Patch with my parents. The picture above was taken at my parents house right before we left for the pumpkin patch. Since my parents live in walking distance to the park, we loaded up the stroller and went for a nice walk.

A few weeks ago a friend from church setup a field trip to the local pumpkin patch for anyone who wanted to come. For a small fee the kids were able to ride on all the rides, get a coloring book, mini pumpkin and a water. We had a blast playing at the pumpkin patch.

A few weeks ago I got a great deal on a Zoo membership on groupon.com. So with our groupon in hand we headed to the Zoo for some animal fun! We had a blast and we are excited to go back!

Last weekend we found ourselves with some extra time. We decided to beat the heat and go to my parents for some water fun. While Daniel watched the USC game, Karlee and I watered my mom's plants. Karlee loves watering!

My little Karlee is 11 months old today! I just can't believe how fast time is going! I wish it would just slow down so I can take it all in.

~She can stand by herself but when she realizes she is she immediately sits down

On Saturday June 11th Daniel received his Masters of Public Administration degree from California State Polytechnic University- Pomona ! Definitely a proud wife moment. Since his graduation was at 8:00PM we had a little dinner with our family before and then headed to the campus. It was weird being at a graduation at night but I enjoyed not sitting in the sun!

Karlee is now 10 months old! I can't believe that I have a 10 month old!!

She has really changed so much in the past month! Things I want to remember about Karlee this Month:

~She has started "cruising" using furniture to walk but still won't let us help her

~ She can wave hi and bye on command

~ She gives high-fives

~ She dances on command

~ She still sleeps from 7PM to 7 AM

~She is trying really hard to climb the stairs but can't quite figure it out!

~She loves opening cupbords and drawers and emptying them

Our First Family Vacation!

Thanks to my Parents we had our first little family vacation. My parents and some of their friends go to Oxnard every year for the weekend. I know what your thinking Oxnard???? I was thinking the same thing until I got there. We stayed at this cute little hotel that was right on the beach. It was the perfect little get-a-way and I am so grateful that my parents invited us. We had the best time with them and all the people that came! I can't wait for next year!! I am so sad that I didn't take a lot of pictures but I am happy I at least remembered to capture Karlee's first time at the beach.

This was the first day that we were in Oxnard. We were hanging out by the pool while everyone swam. It was a little cold for Karlee so we didn't go in. We decided to walk to the beach which it just through the gate!

Karlee loves to be thrown up in the the air by her Daddy but it sure makes me nervous!!!

The next day we put Karlee on the sand.

She had a blast raking it in her fingers! I am so glad she liked the sand and I can't wait to go back to the beach!!

~She loves lifting herself to standing using furniture or anything that she can get her hands on but doesn't like when we help her.

~ She started to eat Gerber puffs and cheerios.

~ She now eats chicken and turkey.

~ We took her swimming for the first time and she LOVED it.

~ She loves dancing to music.

The Friday before Easter we went to Grandma and Grandpa Hicks house to dye Easter eggs. Karlee loved that Grandma let her put all the eggs in the cups.

On Saturday a few people from church got together and had an Easter egg hunt. Karlee loved it and especially loved watching all the other kids run around looking for eggs.

8 Crazy Months

It is hard to believe that our little Karlee is 8 months old. She is growing up way too fast.

Things I want to remember about Karlee this month:

~After a lot of practice and a lot of going backwards, Karlee started crawling forwards on April 1st

~She likes anything and everything that is not one of her toys, such as a cell phone or the TV remote (she began crawling forwards trying to get my cell phone)

~She objects loudly when you take things away from her

~While she has been giggling for quite a while, she let out the biggest belly laugh recently when Daniel was blowing on her belly

~She loves to jump in her jumper

~She is starting to pull herself up on things, but usually only likes to get up onto her knees. Because of this we decided to lower her crib.

~She is starting to master the sippy cup. She love to hold it herself and get annoyed if you help her too much

~She really loves playing peek-a-boo

~She can do the pincher grab with her thumb and index finger

~She looks for her toys when she drops them and recognizes her toy baskets and loves pulling all the toys out of a basket and examining them

Now that she is mobile she can crawl away when she is done taking pictures. She is fascinated by the camera and tries to get it when I take pictures of her.

Duck, Duck, Turtle?

Daniel needed to go to school to fill out some paperwork for his thesis. Karlee and I decided to go with him and check out his school. There is a duck pond right next to where Daniel needed to go so we decided to check it out. At first Karlee had fun checking out the pond from her stroller.

Then Daniel finished his paper work and decided to take Karlee in for a closer look. Karlee and Daniel were surprised to discover turtles in the duck pond. Daniel was disappointed that they were not ninja turtles but Karlee seemed to find them interesting anyways.

Karlee is getting very close to crawling!! We have been practicing every day and she really likes trying to crawl. Karlee begins her crawling attempt with a few warmup pushups.

She then happily proceeds to try crawling forward, although she ends up just going backwards.

Here she is thinking about where she would like to crawl off to!

We have been practicing going from sitting up to a crawling position. And she is beginning to master that skill.

Curious Karlee

Karlee is getting to be very mobile. She rolls around and is becoming quite the explorer. She will be crawling forward soon, and has become an expert at going backwards. Here she decided to check out what was behind the curtain.
Karlee's toys are kept in baskets. When she sees the baskets she recognizes that the toys are in there and tries to tip the baskets over to get them.

She then proceeds to get out every single toy that is in the basket.

Here you can see the empty basket. She has rolled herself into a corner but she has her toys so she is happy. I love her little smile!

She has to make sure that no toy has been left behind.

Here she rolled underneath our bed. I think she was looking for more toys!!

Lucky Number 7!!!

Daniel and I feel so lucky that God blessed us with our beautiful baby Karlee!!! She is now 7 months old. Weighing in at 15 pounds 5 ounces. She is cute and petite!
Things I want to remember about Karlee:

~ She doesn't suck her thumb anymore but LOVES her pacifier.
~ We had to lower her crib because she was lifting her head over the edge of the crib!
~She's starting to crawl backward and tries really hard to go forward but can't quite figure it out yet.
~She can lift up into the push up position.
~She loves going on walks.
~She loves getting raspberries on her tummy
~She "talks" a lot.
~She now eats butternut squash, carrots, peas, apples, pears, avocados, bananas, rice cereal and oatmeal.

~ She can sit up all by herself.
~She is starting to have stranger anxiety and will cry if she can't see me.
~ Now that she is mobile she doesn't like her swing. So we put it away.
~ Her hair is turning a lighter shade of brown.

Fun With Karlee

Karlee loves her jumper and I love that she loves it! It makes making dinner, doing laundry, and cleaning so much easier!

Karlee rolls and army crawls all over. She especially likes to roll under things. It makes me laugh because she thinks she is so funny!

Karlee's Crib Adventures

As you can see in the picture above there are no bumpers on Karlee's crib. In my infant care class they said that bumpers were a hazard and could lead to SIDS. So I took the bumpers off before Karlee was born. Now she has started to roll over more and more and we have found her in many funny positions after sleeping. She has been putting her feet and arms through the slots of the crib. So we decided to put the bumpers back on in order to prevent injury and the possibility of her getting stuck.

She does lots of funny things while she is in the crib. We found her the other day taking her pants off. Anything to avoid taking a nap.

When we put her down to sleep her head is usually to the right of the picture. But our little rolling machine ends up facing all kinds of different ways.

She knows when she has been caught in the act instead of sleeping....

...but she still thinks it is pretty funny!!

She loves to play with her feet and gets all turned around trying to eat her little toes!!

She rolls around so much in the crib that leaving her on the floor is a risky bet. I better get on Daniel about baby-proofing the apartment because our little baby is getting to be mobile.

You've Had a Half-Birthday, Shout Hooray!!

I just love this little girl!! I can't believe that Karlee is already six months old!! She now weighs 14 lbs. 7 oz. and is 24 3/4 inches long. Things I want to remember about Karlee this month:

Karlee is starting to be very mobile. I put her down for one minute and she has rolled across the entire room. Today she rolled halfway under my bed. What a nut!!
She likes eating her rice cereal and does a pretty good job of getting it in her mouth and not everywhere else.
She smiles and giggles and loves when Daddy plays the drums on her tummy.
Nap-time is just a dream to me. All she wants to do is play. She rolls around in her crib and ends up in the funniest positions.
She is officially wearing 6 month size clothes.
She is more "talkative" than ever. She constantly makes her razzing sound and will talk for a long time uninterrupted.
She is learning to sit-up on her own and does baby crunches.
She loves her activity jumper

Karlee has been eying our food for a few weeks now. She has even grabbed food off of my plate!! The doctor said we could begin solid foods whenever we were ready and so we decided that since she is now 24 weeks old that we would give it a try. She was happy when we started.

After the first bite she wasn't too sure what to think about the mushy stuff in her mouth.

She even thought about spitting it out....

...but she ended up swallowing the spoonful of rice cereal

And it turned out that she really did like the rice cereal. Soon she will be moving on to more exciting foods. I can't believe that my little girl is getting so big!!

Little Karlee is 5 months old today! She has grown so much in the past month! She is now 13 pounds 9 ounces and 25 inches long! Fun facts about Karlee that I want to remember.......
~She sleeps 10 to 12 hours at night
~ Every time I put her on her tummy she immediately rolls over
~ She loves her toys especially ones that have tags
~ She has grown out of her 3 month size clothes
~She is very curious
~She loves to kick her feet (I can't seem to keep socks on her)
~She still loves to play with her feet
~ She talks to her toys (SO CUTE)
~She makes all kinds of cute and funny noises
~She is very interested in my food and water bottles
~She is still sucking her thumb but only at night

Daddy's Hat

Karlee likes to touch our faces as we hold her. She kept grabbing Daniel's hat, so he decided to put it on her.

It didn't work out too well for her.

So Daddy turned it around backwards and smiling resumed immediately.

While I normally make sure Karlee's head attire matches the rest of her outfit, she just looked so cute wearing Daniel's hat that I decided to let this slide. Her smile is just so cute and it makes my heart melt.

Christmas 2010

We had an amazing Christmas this year. It was full of food, family and fun. We were definitely spoiled this year. We spent Christmas Eve with Daniel's family and had an awesome dinner and watched the Grinch. For some reason I forgot to take pictures. On Christmas morning we opened presents at home and then went to my parents for breakfast. In the afternoon we went to Daniel's parent's home to visit with his Aunt Vicky, Uncle Mike and their family. Then it was back to my parents for dinner. We had a very busy but fun Christmas.

Every Christmas the La Verne fire department comes by all the houses in La Verne and gives the kids a little bag with an apple and nuts. I was excited that we were at my parents when they came by.

Karlee didn't seem to mind the sirens from the fire truck but she didn't like the sun.

Karlee is now 4 months old! I can't believe it! She is almost 13 lbs. I love this little girl so much. Each day we see her little personality develop more and more!
Things I want to remember at this age!

~ She has started to suck her thumb but still likes her pacifier
~ She has found her feet and they provide endless fun
~ She has started grabbing toys
~ She loves to roll from her tummy to her back
~She is always VERY aware of her surroundings

This was Karlee's first time meeting her cousin Giosue (they are only 3 weeks apart in age). It was also her first time meeting the rest of his family and she seemed a little overwhelmed with all of the other kids running around. She isn't used to having to fight for attention :) She had a good time and she can't wait for next Thanksgiving so she can try some turkey and all of the rest of the feast.

I can't believe Karlee is already 3 months old! She has grown so much in the past month! She is such a blessing in our lives and she brings us so much joy! She is now 11pounds 9 ounces. She is still so petite!
Things I want to remember about Karlee this month.........

~ She has found her hands and is happy to play with them for hours.
~ She loves to kick up her little legs.

~She loves going on walks in her stroller.
~She LOVES getting a bath and will cry when I take her out!
~ She is starting to sleep really good at night, even a few times for 1o hours straight!!
~She smiles when we get her out of her crib in the morning (melts my heart).
~ She has rolled from her tummy to her back 3 times.
~She makes the funniest noises and still loves to talk.
~ She is doing a good job at holding up her head and loves the Bumbo chair.

On Friday October 29th, Karlee and I were having fun playing and having tummy time. I decided I needed to get out the camera and take of few photos because I just can't resist this cute face. During our little photo session she ROLLED OVER!!! I am not sure she knew what she was doing but I was so excited that I got picture evidence!

Happy Halloween

Karlee enjoyed her first Halloween. She dressed up as a Halloween ballerina or as I liked to say a "Hallowina"

Here you can see the whole outfit. She is really doing good sitting up and holding her head up.

We had a little fun putting her in the witch's pot and she didn't seem to mind.

She liked hanging out in the pumpkin patch at Grandma and Grandpa Hicks' house.

Since Halloween is a Sunday this year we started out our day by going to church. So we all dressed with festive colors.

At this point Karlee wasn't too thrilled about taking more pictures.

Last week our apartment complex had a pumpkin patch for the residents and everyone could take home a free pumpkin. Karlee wasn't too sure about the hay and it was pretty cold outside.

That was the pumpkin we ended up taking home. Everyone at the pumpkin patch loved Karlee's outfit and especially her bow, which was nearly the size of our pumpkin :-)

I just love Karlee's eyes they are so beautiful. Daniel and I are still making our predictions on the color that Karlee's eyes will end up. She was born with very blue eyes. Most of the time they look blue to me but the other day she was wearing brown and her eyes looked more brown but still had a little blue. I guess we will soon find out what color they will end up.

Our little Karlee is now 2 months old! Time has really gone by fast. yesterday we went to the doctor and Karlee is now 10 pounds 6 ounces and 22 3/4 inches long. My friend Brittney every month always blogs about the things she wants to remember about her kids at that age. I always thought that was a super cute idea so I am going to copy her!

Things I want to remember about Karlee this month-

She LOVES her daddy! She just loves to stare at him.
She really likes her swing and will stay there for a long time if I let her.
She started smiling and smiles more and more every day.
She loves to talk and it's SO CUTE to listen to. It's so fun to see her cute little face light up when we talk back.
She makes the funniest faceswhen looking at stuff.
She is finally growing out of her newborn size clothes and now wears 0 to 3 months even though they are a little big.

I have become obsessed with big bows/flowers and dressing her up! Here are some pictures I took this past week.

Pretty in Pink

Well we haven't been keeping a very updated blog so here are some recent photos of Karlee. She is 7 weeks old today. She is doing a great job of keeping her head up by herself and we had some fun photo shoots recently.
I think Karlee is going to play the guitar when she is older. She already has the air guitar pose down.

We love seeing Karlee smile when she is awake. She is more and more aware of her surroundings and is starting to smile more at us.

I just thought this was a cute picture. She loves to stick out her tongue when she is focusing on something.

Have you noticed a trend with her outfits? I think somebody really likes the color pink.

Even when pink isn't the main color of the outfit, it usually finds its way onto her outfit as you can see by the flower on her head and the center of the flowers on her dress.

Here is another precious smile and a wink for good measure. And she is sitting in her pink chair and has pink in the flowers on her dress again. My house is being taken over by the color pink, and I am ok with that.

First Week at Church

Today was Karlee's first time going to church. She almost made it through sacrament meeting without crying. Overall it was a good Sunday back at church.

I can’t believe my baby is already a month old! We went to her doctor’s appointment today and found out that she is 8 pounds 11 ounces and 21 inches long. The Doctor says she is growing great! She is still very petite and still fits into newborn size clothes. Daniel and I thought she would be a big baby so we only had 0 to 3 month size clothes. Thank goodness for my Mom, she went shopping when we first got home from the hospital and bought little Karlee some clothes. Here is one of the dresses my Mom got her for church.

Firsts

Now that Karlee's umbilical cord has fallen off she can take a bath in her little tub. Surprisingly she didn't scream and seemed to enjoy the bath.
After her first bath in the tub we decided to do something with her hair. So we gave Karlee her first faux-hawk. Then later in the day we took her on her first walk in her stroller. We had been on a few walks previously but this was her first time riding in her stroller.

The next day another first happened. This was the first time we were able to get her to wear a bow or flower without screaming (mostly because she was sound asleep). And since we were so successful with that picture we decided to play around with some settings on our camera.

And we got this great picture in black and white. We sure are having fun with Karlee. Everyday is a new adventure and she brings a smile to our face, when she is sleeping or not screaming :+)

Two Weeks Old

Karlee is two weeks old today. We can hardly believe that she is already that old. Time has been flying by. We decided to get a nice picture of her and Vanessa wanted to put a bow in her hair. As you can see Karlee didn't seem to really care for our plans for her pretty picture.
Once I picked her up she stopped crying and let us get a few improved pictures. But she still hadn't gotten the picture we were looking for.

So I wrapped her in her blanket and held her up and the results are pretty good. Vanessa and I will be starting our baby photography business after a few more successful sessions :+)

All in all it was a fun time getting a good picture to document her two week birthday. I think the pictures turned out pretty well considering how the photo shoot started.

Random Cuteness

My mom came over last week on her lunch to let Vanessa and I take a nap. Karlee liked spending time with her Abuela.
Karlee is already practicing for when she has a cell phone, which won't be for a very very long time if Dad has his way :+)

Karlee is a very happy sleeper as you can see.

Sleeping makes her smile and it makes Mommy and Daddy smile too.

She has some wild dreams sometimes. Here she is dancing and having a good time.

I have always known that Karlee was a peaceful sleeper, but this took it to another level. Karlee says, "Peace out until the next post!"

Smiles and the Catwalk

I have read that newborns can't smile and these facial expressions are usually the result of gas. However, I still love how she looks when she is smiling.
Here you can notice her dimple on her left cheek. I have been told that she has one on the right cheek also but I haven't seen it.

Her little smile (or gas face) always makes me smile.

We decided that we needed to get pictures of Karlee in her cute outfits. Here she is relaxing in her newborn lounger in a brown and pink ensemble. And yes I realize how gay I sound but we are talking about fashion.

Karlee Fay Durham

Karlee Fay Durham was born on 8/12/2010 at 7:49p.m. She weighed 6lbs. and 14ozs and was 20 inches long. We are very excited to have her be a part of our family.

Here we are just after Karlee was born.

I love this picture of Karlee. She has blue-grey eyes and we are not sure it will stay that way since both Vanessa and I have brown eyes.

Here we have Vanessa and Karlee. Vanessa was suprised at how quickly Karlee arrived. We got to the hospital at 2:30 p.m. and Karlee was born at 7:49 p.m.

Here I am with Karlee immediately after she was born. I can't believe that this little angel is my daughter.

Here she is after she got her first bath. The nurse put the little pink bow in her hair. We can't believe how much hair she already has. Vanessa is already planning out all the cute things she can do with all of the cute hair.

Baby Shower!

Last Saturday was my baby shower. I so grateful to everyone that helped and everyone that came! I had so much fun and everything was so beautiful!

My Mom and Grandma decorated the backyard. They sure are creative ladies!

This was one of the games we played at the shower. Each letter of GIRLS represented a item that I would need at the hospital. The actual items were in the bags and I got to open them. It was fun trying to guess what was in the bags! Big thanks to my friend Brittney who came up with this super cute game.

I have been having so much fun decorating the baby’s room! I even found a guy at the OC swap meet that does custom bedding his name is The Baby Guy. Here is the bedding I designed! It came out just how I imaged it! You can see the walls are now pink thanks to Daniel and my Dad. I will be posting more pictures once I complete the room! It’s almost ready for our little girl!
